About Us

Dory Dog Software is a one-person indie studio that makes games that surprise, teach, and delight (well, we hope). Every project is a project of love from the first scribbled sketch to the very last line of code. We love combining hand-drawn art, simple fun mechanics, and quirky characters to build worlds that delight and entertain.

Dory Dog titles all follow the One-Pay System: no ads, no microtransactions, no sneaky extras. Just one game, one fair price, and hopefully a lot of smiles. We try to make small, heartfelt experiences that feel personal and full of life, games that make you laugh, think (and maybe even get a little attached to the characters).

We make games the way we’d want to play.

About Me

Hi, I’m Simon Davies, the main developer at Dory Dog Studios.

I started getting into gaming in the late ’80s on an Amstrad CPC 464. Endless hours of Roland on the Ropes and Dizzy made me think, “I’d love to make a game.”

I taught myself BASIC (mainly through type-ins) and started creating text adventures and simple arcade clones like Brick-Out and Eat-Man. Not only was I making games, I was already showing off my game-naming genius.

I eventually upgraded to PCs in the ’90s. I learned Turbo Pascal and Visual Basic 6, and kept making games — most of which, sadly, are forever lost on long-discarded floppy disks.

I ended up working in systems engineering on PLCs. This taught me some really good lessons in how logic really works. I moved into training and systems specialization (though I’m still not entirely sure what system I specialized in).

I began working on my own business, creating custom systems for clients in the maintenance industry. Sadly, Covid meant it didn’t turn out quite as I hoped, and I got a job working with a charity refurbishing computers, where I had the chance to teach college students computer fundamentals, which I really loved.

And that brings us to today, and being back to my first love — making games — and that’s how Dory Dog Studios was born. I create games that are fun, memorable, and maybe a little odd… just like me.

In my spare time, I’m also writing a book about how computers work, because teaching and sharing knowledge is just as much fun as creating games.
